Prune Coffee Cake With Brandy

A delicate coffee cake with tart prune filling, dulce de leche and a light chantilly cream. The unique combination of flavors and textures is what makes this coffee cake so delicious! This cake is one of the first cake recipes I ever made from scratch! My mom found the recipe in an old Italian cookbook she picked up at a thrift store. We adjusted the recipes over the years and this version is my favorite! I’ve been enjoying this recipe for many, many years and am sharing a re-vamped version today!

For this incredible cake, I start out with a not-too-sweet coffee-flavored sponge cake. The light coffee cake is soaked with more coffee and brandy, then topped with a layer of sweet, dulce de leche. It’s then filled with a tart prune filling made with prunes, orange juice, espresso and more brandy! The whole cake is filled and frosted with a simple whipped cream frosting, bringing everything together! Garnish the top and sides of the cake with shaved chocolate or chocolate pieces.
