Ingredients of Sweet Potato Recipe

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make these oven-roasted potatoes:

  •  Sweet Potatoes: this recipe will work great with any type of sweet potatoes, not just the classic orange.
  • Salt & Black Pepper
  • Thyme & Rosemary: fresh herbs will add the most amount of flavor but dried herbs will also work in a pinch.
  • Basil, Garlic Powder, Smoked Paprika: for seasoning the potatoes. Feel free to add or use your favorite spices, too!
  • Butter: melted butter helps the spices stick to the potatoes and adds great flavor.
  • Oil: using a combination of butter and oil for more flavor.

How to Make Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes

There are two different ways of preparing oven-roasted sweet potatoes. Both of these are great options!

  • Boil & Bake: The first method is the one I used in my video recipe, which involves cooking the potatoes first, then seasoning them with butter and spices. This method works well if you need the sweet potatoes to be extra soft. Toss the cooked sweet potatoes with herbs and spices, then bake at 350F for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown. I also like to turn on the broiler for a couple minutes so the potatoes are nice and golden.
  • Roasting: The second method and the one I currently use requires less work. Just spread the raw sweet potatoes onto a baking sheet. Pour butter or olive oil over the potatoes, then add the seasonings, toss everything together and cover the pan with foil! Set your oven to 425F and roast the sweet potatoes covered for about 20 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes. For more color, broil under high temperature for a few minutes.

How to Serve Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are very versatile and delicious! I actually prefer sweet potatoes in place of mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving with my turkey. Check out these delicious ‘Butter & Thyme Mashed Potatoes’, too! They’re also great with chicken, beef, lamb and and even duck! And, try serving roasted sweet potatoes with eggs in the morning, in place of regular potatoes!

Use the oven roasted sweet potato in salads, like this ‘Kale & Potato Salad’ with massaged kale, cheese and nuts!

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt & fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp EACH: fresh thyme, fresh rosemary
  • 1 tsp EACH: dried basil, garlic powder, smoked paprika
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 3 to 4 avocado oil or olive oil

Instructions

  • There are two different ways of preparing oven-roasted sweet potatoes. The first method is the one I used in my video recipe, which involves cooking the potatoes first, then seasoning them with butter and spices. This method works well if you need the sweet potatoes to be extra soft. Preheat oven to 350F. Place sweet potatoes into large pot filled with water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, just until the potatoes start to become tender. Drain water.
  • Toss together potatoes with melted butter and oil, herbs, salt and black pepper. Bake in preheated oven until fork-tender and golden brown, about 15 to 18 minutes. Broil for a few minutes on high heat to make the potatoes extra golden. Remove and transfer into serving bowl.
  • Method 2: The second method and the one I currently use requires less work.
