Ingredients for Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Here are my tips for the main ingredients you’ll need for these maple glazed sweet potatoes. Find the full list of ingredients in the printable recipe card below.

  • Sweet Potatoes – I like to use regular, orange sweet potatoes. Japanese sweet potatoes will also work for this recipe.
  • Real Maple Syrup – use real, pure syrup, not artificial syrup for best results. Real syrup has the best flavor and aroma; plus, no artificial ingredients or sugars.
  • Whole Grain Mustard – a touch of mustard really complements the maple syrup. You can also use Dijon mustard.
  • Avocado Oil – you can also use olive oil.
  • Fresh Thyme – I love using fresh herbs wherever possible. Fresh herbs have the most aroma and flavor. You can substitute with dried thyme if you can’t get fresh herbs.
  • Dried Garlic & Onion
  • Smoked Paprika – one of my favorite spices! This smoky pepper adds incredible flavor!

Preparing the Sweet Potatoes

These maple glazed sweet potatoes are so easy and quick to make! Here’s to prepare the potatoes for the recipe.

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon mat.
  2. Use a peeler to peel the sweet potatoes, removing any dark spots. Drop the peeled potatoes into a large bowl filled with cold water. This will prevent the dark spots from forming on the potatoes.
  3. Using a sharp chef’s knife, cube the sweet potatoes into 1-inch cubes. Evenly cubed potatoes will bake more evenly.
  4. Place the cubed potatoes onto the prepared baking sheet.

Seasoning for Maple Sweet Potatoes

Once the sweet potatoes are peeled and cubed, it’s time to add all the flavor!

  1. Pour the avocado oil and maple syrup over the potatoes and add the mustard.
  2. Add freshly ground black pepper, then sprinkle the potatoes with salt, dried garlic, dried onion, fresh thyme, and smoked paprika.
  3. Using your hands, toss the potatoes until they are well coated in all the seasonings, then spread the potatoes evenly on the baking sheet.

Roasting Instructions for Sweet Potatoes

  1. Cover the seasoned sweet potatoes with a sheet of wide foil; or use two regular-width sheets. The potatoes should be sealed tightly.
  2. Roast the maple glazed sweet potatoes at 425°F covered with foil for 20 to 25 minutes, until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  3. Remove the foil from the potatoes once they’re soft, then continue to roast for another 20 minutes, tossing them after 10 minutes with a spatula.
  4. Turn the oven to the broiler setting and broil the potatoes on ‘high’ for 5 to 7 minutes until the potatoes are golden on top. You can skip this step if the potatoes are already caramelized.
