Ingredients for Peach & Berry Crumble

Here are the main ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious fruit crumble:

  • Fruit: I used strawberries, peaches and blueberries for this recipe! You can use fresh or frozen fruit and berries. Just thaw them beforehand!
  • Cornstarch: this is a must to thicken the fruit juices as the crumble cooks. If you like your crumble on the thicker side, simply double the cornstarch amount.
  • Oats: you can use any type of rolled oats for this recipe, both old-fashioned and quick oats.
  • Sliced Almonds: these add a nutty flavor and more crunchiness to the topping!
  • Cinnamon & Nutmeg: these warming spices are a perfect addition to the crumble topping.
  • Heavy Cream: for making the whipped cream for serving.
  • Flour, Butter & Sugar: for making the topping.

What Fruit to Use for a Crumble

In my video recipe, I used wild huckleberries and peaches for my crumble. Huckleberries are tart little berries are like wild blueberries. Every year in the summer, my parents travel to the mountains to pick these delicious berries. They’re very high in antioxidants and perfect for this berry crumble! In place of the huckleberries, I recommend using blueberry. This crumble recipe will also work well with other fruits such as nectarines, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries!

How to Make a Peach & Berry Crumble

I love how quickly and easily this summer dessert comes together! You can have it in the oven in no time! Here’s how to make this berry crumble:

  1. Get the oven preheating right off the bat to 350F. I also like to place the butter for the crumble topping into the freezer so it’s extra cold!
  2. Prepare the fruit filling first. In a large bowl, combine the fruit and berries, sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Use a large spoon or spatula to toss the fruit in the sugar until well coated. Dump the fruit into the prepared casserole dish.
  3. Next, prepare the crumble topping. Place the flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg into a food processor. Pulse for 30 seconds, or until well-combined. Add the chilled butter and pulse again for a minute, until the butter is broken down into small pieces. Transfer the mixture into a large bowl, then add the rolled oats and sliced almonds.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble in an even layer over the berries and fruit. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, until the top is golden brown and fruit juices are bubbling along the edge. Remove the crumble from the oven and cool for at least 1 hour.
  5. Serve the crumble while it’s warm with vanilla ice cream or with some easy, homemade whipped cream! I have that recipe down below, too!

Serve the Crumble A la Mode!

I love to serve this berry peach crumble warm out of the oven with a heaping scoop of whipped cream! The whipped cream is super easy to make, just 3 ingredients, and it really transforms this fruit dessert! If you’re making this during the summer months, make it ‘a la mode’ with a scoop of vanilla or berry ice cream.

Easy and delicious peach and berry crumble, served a la mode with whipped cream!

Ingredients

For Berry Mix:

  • 2 1/2 cups chopped strawberries
  • 2 large peaches, chopped
  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

For Crumble Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds

For Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Butter the bottom and sides of a medium-sized casserole dish; set aside. Cube the 1/2 cup butter into smaller pieces and set into the freezer to chill for at least 15 minutes.
  • Prepare the fruit filling first. In a large bowl, combine the fruit and berries, sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. If you want the filling to be extra thick, increase the cornstarch from 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons). Use a large spoon or spatula to toss the fruit in the sugar until well coated. Dump the fruit into the prepared casserole dish.
  • Next, prepare the crumble topping.
  • Sprinkle the crumble in an even layer over the berries and fruit. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, until the top is golden brown and fruit juices are bubbling along the edge. Remove the crumble from the oven and cool for at least 1 hour.
  • When ready to serve, prepare the whipped cream. Place the chilled heavy cream, sugar and vanilla into a mixing bowl and whisk on medium-high speed until a fluffy whipped cream forms. Add a dollop of cream on the side for each serving. This berry crumble is best served warm.
