  • Butter – I recommend using unsalted butter for baking recipes. This gives you more control over the salt content in the recipe.
  • Mayonnaise – a unique ingredient in a cookie recipe, for sure! Mayonnaise makes the cookies extra soft and tender, and you won’t taste it in the cookies. I use Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil mayonnaise for my cookies.
  • White Granulated Sugar – regular sugar works best for this recipe.
  • Sprinkles – an optional addition to make the cookies extra festive for Valentine’s Day!
  • All-Purpose Flour – regular flour works best for this recipe.

How to Make Valentine’s Day Butter Cookies

These delicious Valentine’s Day butter cookies are super easy to make! You don’t need to chill the cookie dough either. Simply make the batter, pipe, bake, and enjoy! Here’s how to make these cookies:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Place the softened butter and sugar into a large mixing bowl. Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar together for a few    minutes, until fluffy and creamy.
  3. Next, add the egg, vanilla extract, and mayonnaise. Add 3 to 5 drops of pink food coloring. Mix again for a few minutes until well combined and creamy.
  4. Add the flour and baking powder last and mix just until the flour is incorporated.
  5. Transfer the cookie dough into a pastry bag tipped with a star tip; I used French Star Tip #4. You can use any medium-sized tip. You can also use a cookie press instead of a pastry bag.
  6. Pipe small, 1-inch to 1 ½-inch sized heart shaped cookies onto the parchment paper. These cookies don’t spread, so they can be piped closer together.
  7. Garnish the cookies with sprinkles, if desired.

Baking Instructions for Butter Cookies

  1. Bake the butter cookies at 325°F for 12 minutes. The bottom of the cookies should remain pale.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving & Storage Suggestions

Store these Valentine’s Day butter cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

For longer storage, keep the cookies in an airtight container and in the freezer.
