How to Make Apple Fritters

These delicious and aromatic fritters are so easy to make, you’ll be making them all season long. This fall dessert starts with sweet and crunchy apples. Just about any apple variety will work for this apple recipe! Just peel the apples first, then dice into small, pea-sized pieces. Don’t cut the apples too big, otherwise the fruit won’t have time to cook in the deep fryer.

Traditional fritters are made with a soft yeast dough that takes a few hours to prepare and proof. This ‘cheat’ donut recipe is much simpler and uses baking powder instead. The result is very similar to classic yeast dough – soft, fluffy and delicious! The dough is also flavored with ground cinnamon and nutmeg for the ultimate fall flavors! Just drop spoonfuls of the batter into hot oil and fry to perfection. When deep frying the apple fritters, make sure the oil is hot, preheated to 350F/177C. If the oil isn’t hot enough, the dough will simply absorb the oil, making for greasy fritters. If you want to make yeast dough fritters, use the yeast dough recipe from my ‘Best Cinnamon Rolls’ recipe. I use this dough for many of the recipes! Just add the cinnamon, nutmeg and apples to the mix!

Once the fritters are fried, it’s time for the glaze! These donuts are glazed with a simple confectioner’s sugar and cinnamon glaze. The glaze should be on the runny side so when the apple fritters are dipped in, the glaze fills every nook and cranny! Place the glazed donuts onto a wire rack and allow the glaze to set and the excess to drip off.
