1 1/2cupsfreshly-squeezed lime juice, about 20 limes
2cupstequila, Blanco or anejo
1/2cuptriple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier
1/2cupagave syrup, or honey; maple syrup
For Garnishes:
margarita salt
1cupstrawberries, quartered
3limes, quartered
4cupsice
Instructions
Making the Strawberry Syrup:
Wash and dry, then remove the leaves and quarter the strawberries. Place the quartered strawberries into a food processor, along with the sugar. Adjust the sugar to taste; omit the sugar when using extra sweet berries.
Pulse the strawberries into a smooth puree. You can also do this using a blender. Pour the strawberry puree into a medium sized saucepan.
Bring the puree to a simmer over medium heat on your stovetop. Simmer the puree for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the syrup from the heat, transfer into the refrigerator and chill completely.
Making the Drink:
I highly recommend using fresh lime juice! Squeeze the juice from 20 to 25 limes and strain out the seeds. Pour the lime juice into a large margarita pitcher.
Next, measure out the tequila, triple sec (orange liqueur), and agave syrup. Pour those into the pitcher. Add in the chilled strawberry puree next.
Add about 1 cup of quartered strawberries and a few sliced limes into the pitcher, along with several cups of ice.
Serving Suggestions:
Stir everything together and serve immediately!
If you want to prepare the drink ahead of time, simply combine all the ingredients in the pitcher, except for the ice. Place the pitcher into your refrigerator and chill. When ready to serve, simply add ice.
