Ingredients for Pork Pasta

This easy pork pasta recipe requires few ingredients and you have it ready in no time! Here are the main ingredients you’ll need:

  • Ground Pork: use regular, not lean, ground pork for best results. The extra fat will make this pork stroganoff extra rich and creamy!
  • Carrots, Onions, Garlic: for making the stroganoff sauce.
  • Mushrooms: I used cremini mushrooms in my photos but you can use just about any type of mushrooms. White mushrooms, shiitake, portabella or even chanterelle mushrooms will work well.
  • Whole Milk: for making the creamy sauce. Whole milk or even half-and-half will make the sauce extra creamy and rich. You can also use cream if you don’t mind the extra calories!
  • Broth: to add even more flavor to the creamy sauce, I like to use a beef or vegetable broth.
  • Butter & Flour: for making the roux, which is a thickener used for thickening the milk sauce.
  • Pasta: this recipe will work with just about any type of pasta or egg noodles.

How to Make Creamy Pork Stroganoff

Here’s how to put together this easy stroganoff recipe!

  1. Start by preparing the pasta! Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain the cooked pasta and keep it warm.
  2. Prepare all the ingredients. Clean and slice the mushrooms. Dice the onion, grate the carrots and mince the garlic.
  3. Heat a large sauté pan over medium/high heat and add a tablespoon of cooking oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté them until they’re golden brown, about 5 to 6 minutes. Season the mushrooms with salt, then remove them from pan onto plate.
  4. Into the same pan, add additional oil if needed and the onion and carrot. Sauté this mixture for a few minutes, until the onion is tender, then add the garlic and ground pork and the seasonings. Break the pork apart into small bits using a flat-edged spatula. Cook this mixture for about 7 to 8 minutes. It doesn’t need to be fully cooked at this point.
  5. Now for the sauce: in small sauce pot, melt the butter and whisk in the flour. Cook the roux over medium heat for 1 minute, then slowly incorporate the milk, whisking it constantly so no clumps form. Cook the sauce until the milk thickens, then add stock and season lightly with salt and ground pepper.
  6. Pour the sauce over the pork mixture and return the mushrooms to the same pan. Simmer the pork sauce over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes and add additional salt to taste, if necessary.
  7. Pour prepared pork sauce over cooked pasta, stir and serve!

Serving Pork Stroganoff

I like to serve my pork pasta recipe with a side of sliced heirloom tomatoes and cocktail cucumbers! That’s how my parents always served this dish during the summer months. The fresh vegetables are a great complement to the rich and creamy noodles. In the winter months, it’s great with pickles or marinated tomatoes, too.
